Takarafuji Daisuke Biography
Takarafuji Daisuke is one of the most popular and richest Rikishi who was born on February 18, 1987 in Nakadomari, Aomori Prefecture, Japan. He was awarded his first kinboshi (or gold) star after he defeated yokozuna Kakuryu during the tournament in January of 2015, but he didn’t win the first prize of a special award and a promotion to the San’yaku ranks when the tournament was not won on the last day. He finished with a make-koshi 7-7 record. Record-breaking performances in May and March brought him to the rank of Komusubi for the first time, but the July result was 4-11 and was enough to see him return to ranking and filed. He won just four times in September before returning to winning form with 10 wins in November. A winning record in January of this year resulted in him being promoted to Komusubi for the tournament in March. In the tournament, he beat Hakuho on the first day, which was his first victory over the yokozuna , despite eleven rounds. He defeated Hakuho in the fifth day of the tournament in Nagoya which ended the yokozuna’s winning streak. He finished his tournament on a winning 10-5 score and was awarded the prize that was specifically awarded to Fighting Spirit. He was promoted to the highest rank as of sekiwake in the September 2016 tournament. However, he only scored 4-11, and was subsequently demoted. He has been within the maegashira rank from the time he was demoted.
His first appearance in the division was to be the same event where his stablemate ozeki Harumafuji, would win the title. It was a great debut but it did nothing to improve his record, and a poor record of 4-11 saw him degraded. For the next four events the wrestler was alternating between loss records at makuuchi, which led him to juryo, where he could put up an impressive record to earn top-tier promotions once more. Even though he only managed 6-9 at maegashira 14 during the tournament in March performance by a number of wrestlers in close ranks enabled him to remain at the bottom of the Makuuchi Division to the maegashira rank 16 at the bottom in the tournament of May 2012. In this event, the wrestler would post his first win and be at the top of the podium for a while in the tournament when several successive losses pushed him out of contention. After his graduation, former yokozuna Asahifuji who had was a student at the same school as Sugiyama had invited him to join the Isegahama stable, of which Asahifuji was the head coach. Sugiyama’s professional career in sumo began with the start of 2009. He chose the shikona of Takarafuji at the start and followed the tradition at Isegahama of wrestlers obtaining names for their ring at the beginning, rather than waiting for promotion opportunities like most stables do.
