On January 30, 2009, Beam was designated for assignment to create roster space for newly signed outfielder Eric Hinske. On February 5, he was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Beam spent 2011 with the Lancaster Barnstormers of the Atlantic League. In 52 appearances, Beam went 3-3 with a 4.78 ERA with 1 save, striking out 40 in 49 innings.

On the 14th of December in 2007, Beam signed an agreement with minor leagues of the Pittsburgh Pirates. From September 4 to Beam was on the clock with an 3.89 ERA in 22 games.

Beam was a major league debut with the New York Yankees on June 17, 2006, in a game against the Washington Nationals at RFK Stadium in the final inning of the sixth. Beam pitched just 1 and 1/3 innings, giving the ball to one home hit, three runs and one earned. Beam’s debut at bat was the check swing strikeout of the former Yankee reliever Mike Stanton.

Beam was signed to a minor league contract which included an invitation to spring training by the Arizona Diamondbacks on December 4, 2009. He spent the season with Triple-A Reno, where he went 3-3 with a 6.33 ERA in 43 appearances with 5 saves, striking out 34 over 54 innings
