P. C. Sreeram is one of the most popular and richest Cinematographer who was born on January 26, 1956 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Sreeram was born on January 26, 1956 at Madras, (now Chennai, Tamil Nadu). He was the third kid in the family and had two sisters. Sreeram’s love for films grew significantly during his early years. He attended the Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School in Mylapore, Chennai. As a student , he was uninterested in his studies and was unable to pass the examinations. He was a lover of photography and after a long period of struggle, he enrolled in the Madras Film Institute to pursue the cinematography course. Together with his colleagues Kamal Haasan, C. Rudhraiya, Santhana Bharathi, Radharavi, R. C. Sakthi and others they were referred to as “sanmac” group where they would meet at an place located in Chennai as they shared their experiences about cinema and their hopes of creating a perfect cinema.
Sreeram was the director of his movie Kuruthipunal (1995) it was the story of a police officer that is based on Drohkaal, the Hindi movie Drohkaal (1994). This movie was the official entry of India in the Oscars in 1996. It was screened during the Rotterdam International Film Festival under the category “Director in Focus” eight years after the debut. In 2004 He produced Vaanam Vasappadum, the first Indian film that made use of digital technology with high definition. P. C. Sreeram (born 26 January 1956) is an Indian cinematographer and film director, who is mostly on the Indian film industry. He graduated from the Madras Film Institute. In addition to his cinematographer work, Sreeram was much appreciated for his directorial endeavor Kuruthipunal which was a remake of Drohkaal, a 1994 Hindi film Drohkaal. The film was officially submitted by India as their official entry for the Oscars in 1996, however it was not selected for nomination. Sreeram is well-known for his work with Mani Ratnam. He also was praised by critics for his involvement in films like Mouna Ragam Nayakan, Agni Natchathiram, Geethanjali, Alaipayuthey, O Kadhal Kanmani. Sreeram earned his certificate in motion picture photography through the Madras Film Institute in 1979 He made his film debut in the beginning of the 1980s. The first of his projects, Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai (1985) was awarded the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film by an Director in 1984. After a couple of commercially unsuccessful films, he collaborated together with Mani Ratnam in his debut film Mouna Ragam (1986). The film provided a needed breakthrough for both. After the film’s success they continued to work on Nayagan (1987). Nayagan went on to receive three National Film Awards at the 35th National Film Awards; Sreeram was awarded the National Film Award. He employed new techniques in the camera for the next film, Agni Natchathiram and was praised extremely highly in his film. Sreeram was the director of all the films of Ratnam up to Geethanjali (1989 film) (1989). The film was critically well-received and commercially successful, in addition to receiving the National Film Award for Best Popular Film that Provides Wholesome Entertainment and seven Nandi Awards. These included best cinematography, Best Story awards and the award in the case of Ratnam and Sreeram and Sreeram, respectively.
