Leo Randolph is one of the most popular and richest Boxer who was born on February 27, 1958 in Columbus, Mississippi, United States. After taking home the World Boxing Association super bantamweight championship against Ricardo Cardona on May 4 in 1980. Randolph began his defense of his title against the Argentina’s Sergio Palma three months later in Spokane, WA on August 9 in 1980. The match was telecast nationally. Palma is not widely recognized for his aggressive style, or to be a puncher with a lot of force, but He immediately started to strike at the first bell. Palma was stumbling Randolph in the opening round, then staggered him once more and then dragged his opponent twice prior to the end of the round. In a bid to gain the upper hand, Palma dominated round two with a clear victory over the champion’s young age. Randolph stood up in round three and four boxing defensively, however Palma returned to his dominance during round 5. Randolph got knocked to the ground the third time during the match and then arose on his shaky feet. The referee Stanley Christodoulou counted beyond the obligatory eight count when Randolph was groggy holding his hand across the rope on top. The fight was stopped at 1:12 in the round, deciding that Randolph was not fit to fight again. Based on an article by Jim Benagh in the November 1980 issue in The Ring magazine, Randolph is a deeply religious person was of the opinion that he didn’t have the killer instincts to be professional boxer. He voluntarily made the decision to leave the ring when he was 22.
Randolph became a professional in 1978. The year 1980 was the time he took on Ricardo Cardona for the WBA Super Bantamweight Title and won by TKO at the end of the round in round 15. In his subsequent fight Randolph lost his title against Sergio Victor Palma via TKO in the 5th. Randolph was forced to retire following the fight. He has the world record of the fastest retirement by professional world champion. at the age of two years and fifty days Randolph is also the record holder for having the shortest time of any boxing world champion.
