The Royals promoted Marks from the Omaha Storm Chasers of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League to the major leagues on April 17, 2014. He made his debut with the Royals on April 20. He was designated for assignment on June 2, 2014.
The Royals purchased Marks as well as Vin Mazzaro from the Athletics in exchange for David DeJesus. Following the 2012 season Marks played in the Arizona Fall League and was added to the Royals 40-man roster. Marks was chosen to be part of the Top Prospects Team by the AFL managers and coaches. Marks lead his team in the Arizona league in wins with 5, pitching in his team, the Surprise Saguaros. In the brief six-week season, Marks went 5-1 in seven innings and posted an impressive 2.59 ERA with 22 strikeouts and five walks. Marks played the majority of 2012’s regular season playing for his team, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals of the Class AA Texas League. Marks posted a record of 3-5 for his Naturals which included an ERA of 3.80 in 17 appearances. Marks season was cut short but a ball that was thrown back at the pitcher broke the right orbital bone.
The Oakland Athletics selected Marks in the third round of 2009’s MLB Draft, and he was signed. Marks was a two-year member of the farm system of the Oakland Athletics.
On June 20, 2014, Marks was claimed off waivers by the Texas Rangers after being outrighted off the A’s 40 man roster. He was released on July 25.
